Frequently Asked Questions

  • Great question! Although it is highly recommended that parents and caregivers are involved in treatment, all a therapist can share with them is patterns or themes of the work done in sessions to help in building skills and supports within the home apart from safety concerns. If a youth is experiencing thoughts of wanting to harm themselves or others, shares of any child abuse, elder abuse or abuse of persons with disabilities, those are mandated reports and the appropriate parties will be notified. Otherwise, everything else that happens during a session stays private.

  • Through the use of the HIPAA compliant platform within the client portal, sessions can be held virtually if clinically appropriate. The client must be in the state of California for the duration of session and the location will be confirmed by me at the start of every session for safety reasons. If the client is a minor, an identified safe adult must be present in the location of the client. A confidential and secure location must be available and if WiFi goes out, I will call you on the phone to either finish or reschedule the session.

  • In California, the age of consent is 12. If a child over 12 years old does not want to be in treatment, legally and ethically, they cannot be forced to participate in services. In this case, the parenting support service option I provide might be a great fit for your family.

  • This can be a big decision, and often one that requires discussion. Therapy can be hard but it can also be very helpful and that is a consideration and something we will discuss at intake. Things to look for: changes in mood, socialization, functioning, sudden academic struggles or changes in sleep or appetite. Especially if these issues persist past a couple of weeks, it might be time for a consultation with a professional - click this link for a free consultation!

  • You’re in the right place! Parenting is hard and often not very black and white. What worked for one kid might not work for their sibling which leaves you feeling confused and defeated. Together we can identify the need, develop skills (boundary setting, reinforcement system, clear expectations, communication/language skills) and practice different implementation techniques that best fit your family and your home.

  • My approach is different because I highlight your strengths and leave you with practical tools. Together we will do more than just talk, we will understand the root of the problem, learn applicable skills, and practice the tools together to ensure you feel confident in maintaining your progress.

  • My rate is $185 for a 50-minute session.

  • I am not in network with any insurance companies but I am able to offer Superbills for potential reimbursement. I’d be happy to discuss how that works.
